The 50 Jumbo Tram series 4800 were built in the early seventies, and represent the new life of the 5300 trams of which the crates and trolleys were used.
The design of these trams arose from need of ATM to have new trams with large capacity (24meters length), to be put into service on main lines, but without the burden of a whole new project.
The 4800 series trams were a symbol of the demographic growth of Milan in the 70’s due to its industrialisation and importance as a business city in Italy and Europe.
